The CON29DW questions explained – surface water connections

Our regular series examining the CON29DW looks at questions 2.2 and 2.3 – the surface water connection.

In last month’s article we looked at question 2.1 of the CON29DW, which deals with foul water drainage. This month we look at surface water, which is covered in 2.2 and 2.3.

As we mentioned last month, surface water is primarily rainwater which falls on the property and has to be removed. Unlike foul water, this doesn’t require treatment and is therefore usually directed into nearby watercourses.

Utility searches price changes – February 2017

We are changing the price of some of our commercial utility searches from 16th February 2017.

Both the BT Telecoms search and Western Power’s electricity search will decrease in price.

The CON29DW questions explained – foul water connections

Our regular series looking at the questions in the CON29DW looks at question 2.1 – the foul water connection.

Last month we talked about questions 1.1 and 1.2 of the CON29DW. This month we move onto section 2, which deals with drainage.

Water companies classify water draining from properties in two different ways. There’s surface water, which applies to water – primarily rainwater – from the exterior of the building, and foul water, which is anything that comes from inside the property, such as sinks, toilets, baths, washing machines and dishwashers.

Important changes to local authority searches from 1st January 2017

The government is to introduce VAT on the CON29 element of local authority searches during 2017. This will affect apply to all CON29R and CON29O questions. The LLC1 will remain exempt from VAT.

VAT has been applied from either 1st January, or by the beginning of April if councils are unable to meet the January deadline.
