VAT to be introduced on CON29 searches from 1st January

The government is to introduce VAT  on the CON29 element of local authority searches from 1st January 2017.

Originally scheduled for February this year, HMRC  delayed implementation until July to allow local authorities more time to prepare for the change. The July implementation was then postponed, in part due to objections from both the Law Society and the CIPFA VAT committee.

There’s two types of drainage and water searches available on the market: The CON29DW, and regulated (also known as personal) searches. Superficially the two types of report are quite similar but there’s a number of key differences between the two. So which should you buy? The CON29DW questions explained – Maps

This is the first in a regular series looking in detail at the questions in the CON29DW, and what homeowners and conveyancers should be aware of.

The CON29DW generally contains two maps, one showing the location of public sewer assets, the other water. Both of these are extracts of official water company records, and are highlighted in questions 1.1 and 1.2 of the search.

Highway searches now available
