Property Passports round table

The Ordnance Survey (OS) are due to host the Conveyancing Information Executive’s (CIE) first industry round table. This will focus on Property Passports: the role of Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) in improving the property transaction process.

Severn Trent Searches’ Business Development Manager, Owen Davies, will be attending in his role as the Chair of the Drainage and Water Searches Network (DWSN), the industry body which represents the producers of the CON29DW drainage and water search.

The CIE round table will be hosted at Ordnance Survey’s head office in Southampton on the 24th November 2021, with representation including both industry and market stakeholders and CIE members. The aim of the event is to build on the CIE White Paper released in September (which can be found here), and set up focus groups to tackle the major operational challenges of embedding UPRNs to improve the property transaction process.

Chris Loaring, a spokesperson for the Conveyancing Information Executive said “the potential for UPRNs to unify the UK property transaction process and align the direction of multiple stakeholders is unquestioned. However, the operational reality to deliver this transition is complex and challenging.

“Working with OS we are well placed to start breaking down this transition and charting a course for the widespread industry adoption of UPRNs across the property transaction process.”

According to James MacTavish, from Ordnance Survey’s Partner Team “the UK search industry has evolved and proliferated its services extensively over the last few years and key to this is location. It’s an equally exciting and volatile time for the industry. The potential for improvement is the underlying driver for so much business interest in modernising the real estate transaction process.

“UPRNs is an area of extensive knowledge within the OS and across our partnerships, and we are acutely aware of the importance both currency and accuracy play when it comes to geospatial data. We are therefore pleased to support the CIE with their aim of embedding the use of UPRNs more widely across the property transaction process and improving the transaction experience of today.”
