We’re helping the homeless

If you’ve ever read our news or blog sections here on severntrentsearches.com you’ll already no doubt be aware that we’re big fans of recycling, as around 90% of our jokes are borrowed from the Two Ronnies.

So we decided to put our recycling skills to good use. On Thursday 2nd March, it was National Old Stuff Day (yes it’s a real thing). It’s a day designed to “be nostalgic, appreciate the vintage, declutter, learn, and to reflect.” We chose to emphasise the decluttering aspect by recycling some of our own old stuff for a good cause. And as we work in the housing sector, we thought where better to start than close to home?

Homelessness is a huge problem nationally, and figures are on the increase. It’s estimated that nationally, the number of homeless has doubled in the last five years. In Nottingham, where Severn Trent Searches is based, it’s a very visible problem, and our staff wanted to help.

Severn Trent Searches staff organised a collection of their old stuff, and donated it to The Friary, a local charity which helps the homeless and vulnerable adults.

As well as clothing, bedding and toiletries – all essential for those sleeping rough, we donated  household items that can either be sold, or used to help people set up a new home.
