Sewer pipe responsibilities
It’s essential for property buyers to understand how waste is removed from a building, where waste assets are located, and who is responsible for maintaining them.
The CON29DW enquiry addresses various wastewater-related questions, helping buyers avoid unexpected costs and disputes after purchasing a property. Our in-house CON29DW report covers the Severn Trent region and is typically delivered within one working day. However, if your client is located outside this area, you can still order this drainage and water report through us.
Who’s responsible for what?
Drains that take waste away from a property are the responsibility of the property owner. They’re usually located within the property boundary.
Public sewers that take waste from several properties to a treatment works are the responsibility of the water or sewerage company. They’re usually located under roads and footpaths but can also run through private gardens.
Highway drains that take surface water away from public roads and pavements are the responsibility of the Highways Agency. However, water companies charge property owners to treat this water.
