Energy Performance Certificates are a required element of HIPs. They tell potential buyers and tenants how energy efficient a property is and what steps can be taken to improve it. The certificate includes recommendations on ways to improve a home's efficiency – so consumers can save money and help the environment.
Implementing these can lead to lower energy bills, reduced carbon deposits and can make homes more attractive to potential buyers.
The certificate also tells you about the effect the home has on the environment (rated from A to G). Homes with better ratings have less impact through carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The average property in the UK will be in bands D or E for both ratings. EPCs also include recommendations on ways to improve a home's energy efficiency - so you can save money and help the environment. The charts are shown below:
