24hr Buzzathon
Man and woman standing beside a red van Small red van and racing car at the finish line

Stephen Warner will be President of Nottinghamshire Law Society from April 2009 to April 2010 and has said that at the start of his Presidential Year, he would like to do something to raise a large sum of money for charitable/good cause purposes. Some months ago he acquired a bored out 49cc Piaggio Ape (pronounced Appey) van, an Italian piece of kit in which you sit and drive via a motor scooter type handlebar. Ape is Italian for bee and this combined with the buzzing engine noise was the inspiration for Buzzathon.

Stephen Warner and his Vice-President Deborah Hutchinson will drive this tiny buzzing van built around a scooter for 24 hours around Mallory Park Circuit on Wenesday 10th June to raise as much money as possible for three charities: MacMillan Cancer Support, Railway Children and Alzheimer's Society. Anecdotally, it is understood to have a top speed of about 30 mph, but if you put so much as a medium sized solicitor's file in the back, it drops to about 24 mph! It doesn't like headwinds. There are three sponsors: Severn Trent Searches, Paul Smith and Porterbrook.
